Natasha’s Story

North Hastings Children’s Services
Program Name: Healthy Food and Wellness Program

Natasha is a young mom with an 8 month old child. She is not from the local area and does not really know anyone other than one other mom. She suffers from social anxiety and finds it hard when meeting new people. When Natasha first starting coming to groups she would often wait until the mom she knew arrived to come into the building. When she did come in she was often in the corner observing other moms and not really interacting. She was encouraged by staff to keep coming to groups; as the weeks went by Natasha felt more and more relaxed during group and her anxiety lessoned due to the welcoming environment. To our amazement Natasha starting coming three times a week and is now very sociable with other moms/caregivers! Natasha now has a joy of cooking and looks forward to experiencing and cooking new foods each week. She has learned new skills to increase her ability to feed her young family. She even welcomes all the new moms that come to our programs and starts up conversations without anxiety due to her confidence that she has acquired with her knowledge of food and its benefits. Natasha’s story is important because it shows that changes do not happen overnight and by coming to programs weekly can be beneficial in individual’s growth in more than one aspect. Through this educational program Natasha has integrated into this program and now can lead a healthier lifestyle with her young children.
