Campaign Goal at 61%

United Way HPE has reached 61% of our $2,000,000 goal with only 20 days left until year end.  On Friday Dec 7, 8 Wing Commander Mark Goulden announced over $93,000 raised toward the Government of Canada Workplace Campaign for Administered by United Way Hastings & Prince Edward.  Executive Director Kathy Murphy thanked the men and women of 8 Wing for their continued support: “We could not make our goal without the help of 8 Wing, our second largest donor in the region.  Not only do the men and women of 8 Wing bravely serve our country, they are here in our community, working alongside those who are in need and we are so grateful for their service. We do not take this massive effort by 8 Wing (nor that of any of our donors) for granted.”

The upcoming weeks will be focused on calls to past donors, requests for support, and a last minute rally to ask for the community to come forward during this critical time for those who are vulnerable.  “We are emphasizing that no donation is too small – we have a young girl, who for the second year will be asking for birthday donations to the United Way HPE instead of gifts.” Said Murphy.   Myranda Hepburn will be 13 years old, and her father, retired Major Christopher Hepburn says of his daughter, “she’s just a genuinely thoughtful and selfless person.  She always puts the needs of others ahead of her own.  It’s actually humbling to see at such a young age.”

It’s not too late to donate online, by phone, or drop over to our offices at 55 Harriett Street.  There is a secure mail slot for after hours, or the staff and volunteers will pick up donations in some cases.  If you are interested in volunteering, please email volunteers@unitedwayhpe.ca or “The need is great and to date, we have $986,582 in newly received requests through 28 agencies applying for 43 program.  We’re already committed to an additional 14 agencies/19 programs through Multi-year funding at $464,000”, says Brandi Hodge, Director, Community Engagement.
