One Powerful Day of Change. United Way HPE Ignites Community Spirit with the Annual Day of Caring

Thursday June 19th, 2025 – Hastings & Prince Edward, ON – United Way Hastings & Prince Edward’s annual Day of Caring, presented by Welch LLP, is back and in a remarkable display of compassion, teamwork, and community spirit, volunteers from 19 different workplaces are fanning out across the region to take on meaningful, hands-on volunteer projects for community agencies and programs.

One of the standout projects is at Bridge Street United Church, where volunteers will be painting the gymnasium and tackling exterior work to help restore the building to its original purpose as a community church. Over the past few years, Bridge Street generously opened its doors to serve as a drop-in space for individuals experiencing homelessness. As those emergency services transitioned to a new location, volunteers are stepping up to help return the space to its former beauty—a gesture that reflects the very spirit of giving back.

Other projects this year include:

  • Sanding and staining decks at residential care settings and program spaces to improve outdoor areas for clients and visitors
  • Gardening and landscaping to create warm, welcoming environments at social service agencies
  • Painting at multiple sites to freshen up service areas for clients and staff
  • Volunteering in food banks, ensuring shelves are stocked and families have access to the essentials

“Day of Caring is about what happens when our community comes together—when people from different industries, sectors, and neighborhoods unite for a common cause: to lift each other up,” said Kaitlyn Lalonde, Director of Community Impact at United Way Hastings & Prince Edward. “It’s businesses like Sherwin-Williams who, after hearing about the project, stepped up and donated all the paint, supplies, and graffiti removal products—simply because they wanted to help.”
