QDAR’s Amazing REALTORS® Race raises $16,307August 20, 2019
Thursday, August 15th, 2019 was the inaugural QDAR’s Amazing REALTORS® Race hosted by Quinte & District Association of REALTORS® (QDAR) in partnership with United Way Hastings & Prince Edward.
11 teams of QDAR members and supporters were put to the test in a challenging race through the city of Belleville. Participants were tested both physically and mentally as they solved riddles, negotiated obstacles, passed detours and navigated roadblocks to move forward in the race and avoid elimination. Proceeds from this event will help to build strong, healthy communities locally through 45 agencies and 65 programs funded by United Way Hastings & Prince Edward.
President of QDAR — Cathy Polan “The initial idea for an Amazing Race-style event came about during a QDAR membership committee meeting , and the event grew from there quite quickly. These REALTORS® and their partners are at the centre of our community each day, and QDAR’s Amazing REALTORS® Race gives brokerages across HPE the opportunity to engage with each other while coming together to support the many agencies and programs supported by United Way HPE.”
The participants began the day at Zwicks Park racing for their first challenge location at CAA Arena—after finding strategically hidden puzzle pieces and completing their puzzle the teams participated in their first Road Block with Rest Easy Home Inspections. Half of each team then had to make their way by city bus to Procter & Gamble where an outdoor obstacle challenge was waiting for them involving hoola hoops, padlocks, footballs and a lot of coordination before being directed to Ashley HomeStore—where their memory was tested and their room staging abilities challenged. From there the 50 participants were off to Rona to construct a bird house which became their team’s ‘home’ for the day. This put them at the half way point at Metro where the CNIB Accessibility Shopping Challenge awaited them along with a mandatory roadblock and BBQ lunch provided by Enbridge. After a much needed rest, teams headed to the Quinte Fairgrounds to choose between the intricately planned “Treatment or Transport” challenge with the Hastings Paramedics Service—This was also the first elimination stop. Empire Theatre was next with a virtual tour roadblock and a theatre crossword challenge before taking off to TD Bank where teams had to hand in their bird house before moving onto the Brake Room where a slow bike race awaited them. Teams that survived the eliminations raced for the finish line at Myers Pier.
The 1st place team – CIBC—won a $1,000 shopping spree at Quinte Mall, 4 x fire & water-protected safes donated by Master Lock, an assortment of Master Lock padlocks + great swag from OREA & GeoWarehouse! Top Individual Fundraiser James Hartford – team ‘The Blazing Saddle Bags’ Hartford & Stein Group Real Estate Ltd. Brokerage (also finished 2nd and 3rd place) wins a ‘Works’ virtual 3D tour for home or business courtesy of OneLook, + golf & cart at Trillium Wood Golf Club. “The event was so much fun for everyone involved’ said Melanie Cressman, United Way HPE’s Director Donor Relations “we had tremendous feedback and we learned so much this year. We knew we had to do it again, so we’re happy to announce that QDAR and United Way HPE will partner again next year on June 4th, 2020 – early bird registration will open soon”.
