United Way HPE so close to goal, but needs a little extra help!

December 30, 2019

United Way Hastings & Prince Edward has exceeded the $1.75 million mark as it moved into the Christmas break with more workplaces yet to report before the Jan 31 deadline, but projections are showing a slight shortfall between the amount raised and the goal for the 2019 fundraising year.

“We are so close” states Brandi Hodge, executive director at United Way HPE “the generosity of this community is astounding and on behalf of the agencies and programs that we will fund with these donations we thank every single person who has supported the campaign.”

The organization reports that among many others, GH Manufacturing announced their fundraising total at $25,000 and Magna International, nVent and Hastings County have announced their totals. Taskforce Engineering, Impacto Protective Products, and Bellevue Fabricating confirmed their donations. Mr. Maurice Rollins continues to match new leadership level donors committing $125,000 personally to the campaign this year.

“We are currently projecting a total that is approx. $80,000 shy of the $1,950,000 goal” said Hodge. “if this is the capacity of our community to give this year, then it’s an incredible sum, an amazing accomplishment and it speaks to the generosity of the people who live and work here.” Hodge further explains “We wanted to ensure the community knows we’re going to fall a little short to encourage those who have considered donating but haven’t done so. Every single dollar counts and we appreciate whatever can be done.”

In early December the organization closed its annual application process for agencies to apply for funding. “Requests for funding are more than $400,000 above what we were able to allocate last year” says Hodge. “the need is high, and we’ll do our absolute best to meet as much of it as we can—we need a bit more help.”
Community members wishing to support the 2019 United Way HPE fundraising campaign can do so by contacting their office at 613.962.9531 or unitedwayhpe.ca/donate/ . This fundraising campaign will continue until January 31, 2020. Hodge adds, “If someone in the community gave last year, we hope they’ll consider giving again this year. If people are new to the United Way campaign, and have questions, we’d welcome the opportunity to answer them.”
