This free, one-day event aims to connect youth from all over North Hastings, Central Hastings, Prince Edward, Lennox & Addington, as well as Belleville, Quinte West and Tyendinaga Territory. Keynote speaker is Dillon Mendes, an alumni of the Top 35 Under 35 Global Changemaker awards, social entrepreneur, TEDx & youth speaker. Dillon co-founded the social enterprise, PickWaste and is a true believer in the Power of One. He speaks about how one person, one action or one movement can change the world.
“We are so thrilled to be working with local youth to plan this event around topics that they have identified as priorities for young people in our community. United Way has been a perfect natural fit for this group as we’ve been able to facilitate introductions to community leaders and experts who will be engaging with the youth around specific topics at the summit. We are all looking forward to a summit that will educate, inspire, and mobilize our local youth.” says Jodi Cooper, Director of Community Impact UWHPE.
Throughout the day, youth and allies will have the opportunity to take part in interactive workshops that provide them with a variety of transferable skills and awareness. During these workshops, youth will be able to network with community experts and professionals. The day will end with a live “Ask me a question” session with a variety of experts, service providers, and youth sharing on topics they are knowledgeable about. Transportation, lunch and snacks will be provided, along with a ton of free swag!
The goal of the summit is to create positive movements within our communities and encourage youth leadership. Youth who attend will receive community hours and a certificate that can be put right into their portfolios! There will be a photobooth, yoga, bubble soccer, and other outdoor activities.
This free event is brought to the community in partnership with Canada Service Corps – Government of Canada, Bay of Quinte, and Hastings County. Thank you to our other sponsors, Trenval Business Development Corp, City of Belleville, City of Quinte West, Municipality of Tweed, Kellogg’s and Bell Canada.
